...
. If you are willing to do a snow trek in winter then the Kedar Kantha trek will be the best trek for you. Kedarkantha is a very beautiful Himalayan peak that enthralls everyone. The snow remains here till the month of April. The view of sunrise from Kedar Kantha is very worth seeing. From the peak of Kedar Kantha, you can see prominent peaks like Bandar Poonch, kalang, swargarohini, etc. To go to Kedarkantha, first, you have to go to a village called Shankari, because the way to Kedarkantha starts from a village in Sankri.
Sankri village is located at a distance of 10 hours from Dehradun, and the trek is about 23 km. If you start this trek from Sankri, you can climb Kedarkantha for 3-4 km at a time, and then take a little rest at night and start your trek again the next day. Kedarkantha means the throat of Lord Shiva. Kedarkantha place is famous for many stories.
The people of Kedarkantha worship Kedarkantha as the people there believe that by their worship Lord Shiva protects their rivers, ponds, animals etc. Because all these things are important for the life of his people. According to old stories it is said that when Pandavas won the war of Mahabharata they went towards Himalayas to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva because then Shiva lived in Himalayas, but Lord Shiva did not want to meet Pandavas. Therefore Lord Shiva took the form of a buffalo so that the Pandavas could not recognize him.
Then Bhima planned to see the herd of buffaloes, he stood with his feet spread on the rocks, then all the buffaloes started going from under Bhima except one buffalo which was Lord Shiva. Seeing all this Bhima started fighting with that buffalo and threw the pieces of that buffalo into the air where the pieces fell, Pandavas worshiped those places and built Shiva temple. Of all those fragments, one piece also fell in Kedarkantha, where the Kedarnath temple was about to be built. The process of construction of the temple had started and Lord Shiva was absorbed in his meditation, when suddenly a cow came and started making a sound, then Lord Shiva left that place and settled in Kedarnath for fear of distraction. The idol of Lord Shiva was made up to his neck, that is why today this place is known as Kedarkantha because here the idol of Lord Shiva was made only till the throat, which is worshiped here. the upper part was left unfinished.
